Music Assembly Photos

Today we had a musical treat courtesy of the Norfolk Music Hub, as part of their live music week. Five musicians came to deliver a special music assembly, where they talked about their instruments and played pieces of music from a piece composed by Henry VIII to Harry Potter and even Star Wars! The children really enjoyed this experience and the musicians were really impressed with how knowledgeable the children were about music. One child in Year 1 even knew what a tuba was! They were also impressed that all the children in school from Years 2-6 learn the recorder, keyboard and glockenspiel. If your child has been inspired and asks about learning to play an instrument, then please get in touch with Mrs Gittins via the school office email address, as she will be able to point you in the right direction.

Year 5 Cluster Multi Skills Festival

On Wednesday 4th May, Year 5 made us exceptionally proud when running a cluster multi skills festival.  The children have worked in small groups during their PE sessions, focusing on leadership skills and have executed their knowledge and skills wonderfully, delivering a very successful morning of fun.  Thank you to all the schools who attended our event and to all participants!

Year 5 Planetarium Visit

Year 5 & 6 were lucky enough to have a visit from an exceptionally knowledgeable man, Mr Green, last week.  He bought his planetarium and set it up in the hall and we had a great session learning about the constellations, the aurora (Northern Lights) and we were even lucky enough to hold a fallen piece of a meteorite, which was even older than Earth!

Following this, we wrote letters to Mr Green to say thank you very much and let him know our favourite part of the experience!

Broadland Cluster Rugby Day

A selection of 10 pupils from year 5&6 at St John’s had a really wonderful time at the Broadland Cluster Rugby Day at North Walsham Vikings Rugby Club on 30th March 2022. The day began with some basic skills sessions designed to teach rugby’s basic skills – passing, evasion, defence, match structure and rules.  After lunch the children played inter-school tag rugby matches. Great fun was had by all.  Thank you and well done to those who attended and represented the school.  Miss Riley

Year 5 learn about Space

Year 5 have had fantastic fun learning about Space this half term.  We have finished with a blast!  On 29th March, we had a DT day! The day was filled with fun; learning about the history of space flight, designing and creating our very own rockets, which we launched in the afternoon.  The ‘engines’ of our rockets were a mix of bicarbonate soda and vinegar, which propelled our rockets into the sky!

Year 5 Sports Day

Year 5 had a very enjoyable traditional sports day which included a variety of races. We had lots of giggles and it was a lovely way to finish off sports enrichment week. The scores were very close at the end but well done to Cavell.

The final scores were:

Cavell – 33 points

Sewell – 32 points

Nelson – 28 points

Bader – 27 points

Year 5 Archery & Climbing

Year 5 had a wonderful morning taking part in archery and climbing activities. Here are some photos of the fun we had and of our achievements during sport enrichment week. We are all very proud of ourselves!

Rugby Taster Day

On Friday 18th June KS2 took part in a rugby taster day run by Norwich Rugby Club. The wet weather did not dampen our spirits and we had a wonderful time. All the children were very engaged and enthusiastic.

Year 5 Romans

Year 5 have been learning about the Romans and what Britain was like before they invaded. Here are some images of the hill forts we made.

As part of our Roman topic, we explored what equipment Roman Soldiers used and tactics they used for fighting. We then had a go at creating our own Roman Shields. Here are some of our designs.
