SJSA is a group of parents and staff who raise money for facilities and items not provided for by statutory funds. The aim of the association is to advance the education of pupils in the school. SJSA helps to extend relationships between staff, parents and all those associated with St John’s.
The way we raise money is, really, only limited by our imagination. To date we have run discos, cake sales, ice cream sales, strawberry and rhubarb sales; we have sold school tea towels, Christmas production DVDs, run photographic portrait sessions, pamper evenings, Christmas and Easter craft workshops as well as recycling ink cartridges and clothing. This generates about £6000 per year.
Where does all this money go, you may ask? In the last two years alone we have funded approximately £4000 to playground painting and trim trail (climbing apparatus), £2000 towards the schools online learning platform, £2000 towards the redevelopment of the “quad” outside class area, £600 for netball posts and £200 installing a play speed boat in the nursery. We have also funded numerous smaller items.
This year we are making a total of £1000 available to realise ideas put forward by the children, who will be able to make their proposals through School Council. We also hope to be selling Christmas trees and, next summer, hosting a large community festival. We hope to put some of the money earned towards upgrading the school’s library.
All of this is only possible with the dedication and hard work of those who give their time to support SJSA. We are always happy to have new helpers come on board.
